## How to get started

yt-dlp is an open-source tool for managing video and audio downloads. A terminal is a text-based interface for entering commands. Abdul describes this approach:

1. Find the yt-dlp project on GitHub, a platform that hosts software projects, and read the installation instructions for your operating system.
2. Install the tool by following those instructions in the terminal.
3. Use the tool with the page or video link you want to download, choosing a save location if needed.

The video does not provide a reliably transcribable command to copy. Check the project's instructions for exact command syntax, quality options, and save locations.

## How does it compare?

| Option | Abdul's experience |
|---|---|
| A paid program he previously used | It did not download from every site he needed. |
| Download websites | He encountered ads, waiting, and sometimes poor-quality files. |
| yt-dlp | He says it avoids download-site ads and gives him full-quality video. |

## In numbers

- More than a thousand sites: the number Abdul says the tool supports for downloads.

## Background

Being able to download a video does not automatically grant permission to use it. Check the content rights and the site's terms before downloading or reposting.
