The idea
Abdul Osama (عبدول أسامة) wants a personal screen that shows prayer and calendar information rather than an assistant interface he does not actually use. He describes the experience he wants to build; the video does not establish that every feature is already working.
“The user experience has nothing to do with the designer’s expectations, even though I’m the same person.” — Abdul Osama
What would the screen show?
The normal display would show the current time, the next prayer and its countdown, and today’s five prayer times. Abdul mentions Pillars, an Android prayer-times app he likes. Android is a device operating system; he also refers to using an open-source Android setup while discussing the repurposed screen.
It would show the next Google Calendar meeting and the remaining meetings that day. Google Calendar is a service for organizing events and appointments. The point is to see what is coming up and when he will be free of meetings.
What happens at prayer time?
The proposed flow starts with a gentle notification, then brightens the display and opens a full-screen prayer page. That page would remain until he presses “I prayed.” If he has not confirmed, a gentle reminder repeats; another warning can appear when the next prayer is approaching.
“It won’t go away until I say: I prayed.” — Abdul Osama
Pressing the button would record the prayer’s name and exact completion time, calculate how long after the Adhan—the call to prayer—it was completed, stop the reminders, and return to the prayer-and-calendar display. A prayer history would help him see which prayers he tends to perform late.
In numbers
- The display would show five daily prayer times.
- An example screen says the last prayer was completed 3 hours and 18 minutes ago; this is an interface example, not a measured result.
- He proposes repeating a reminder every 10 minutes until he confirms.
- His example warning says Maghrib begins in 45 minutes.
- He would like a time-awareness chime every half hour or hour.
What else would he add?
Abdul also wants a regular cue to notice time passing and a way to control his smart home from the screen. The practical next step in his proposal is to build around the information he actually checks, then see whether the interface serves him in daily use.
